Maintaining a healthy diet Maintaining a healthy diet is crucial for a healthy body and mind, especially so for children. Recent statistics have show many primary school children going to school without having breakfast, for example and going through the day without a proper lunch. Children have a lot of energy, which needs to be maintained and fueled with the right foods.
Nutrition is not simple, but if we follow the food pyramid, it is easily to see what we should be eating more of and what we should be eating less of.
Children between the ages of.5-11 are in a period where growth is slow but steady. In contrast, intellectual and social growth is rapid. Primary school children have a long and mentally demanding day interspersed with and followed by some very active periods. Learning about food, growth and heath is an important part of this stage of life.
A primary school child need a diet that provides “sustained” energy, something to keep them going through the long day. A good diet which provides “day long” energy will help prevent fatigue and help maintain concentration during school hours as well as keeping your children vital and health.
